The General Council's website, with advice and hiking maps for Haute Savoie
Between the lakes and the mountains,
Haute-Savoie is blessed with stunning natural sites and heritage. Eager to highlight the entire region's attractions, the General Council wished, in putting together this Departmental Map for walking and hiking routes, to make the space accessible to as wide a range of people as possible.
A large number of people travel along the paths, on foot, horseback and on mountain bike.
Hiking is a perfect way to discover the eclectic natural heritage and wealth of the Haute Savoie region for walkers.
For over several decades, devoted hikers who came together in local federations and associations have established the pedigree of hiking in Haute Savoie. More recently, the resorts, surrounding towns and groups took notice of demand from users and strove to deliver support for them.
Within this context, and in accordance with its remit specified by the Law, the Haute Savoie General Council has committed to a policy to improve the network of hiking paths.
Putting in place a Departmental map for walking and hiking routes in Haute Savoie is a central element in developing this activity. Indeed, while the Departmental Map may play an indirect part in legally protecting paths, it aims mainly to create conditions to encourage discovering well known or less well known natural sites.
Moreover, it aims to contribute to putting in place a coherent and high-quality system of markers which, progressively, may be used for finding one’s way from one end of Haute Savoie to the other.
The General Council [...] has committed to a policy for improving the network of trekking paths.
The aim of the General Council is to ensure that the paths marked on the Departmental map, in its equestrian, hiking or mountain biking sections, be recognised by the general public as high quality paths, thus encouraging them to discover Haute Savoie's rich natural heritage in all its diversity. Non-specialists can trust that they will be able to travel along their chosen itinerary.
In order to discover the wonders of our region, we have made this website available to you which will progressively provide access to the entire network marked by the General Council.
